The Last Mile

Once again I am back writing an email. This will be the 2nd to last (I might write one more after getting home, we'll see). It's crazy. I have a lot of stuff to do before then. This week was eventful though it is hard to remember a lot of what happened.

I had a ton of baptismal interviews. One ward planned about 10 baptisms plus 3 others I got to do for other areas. It is definitely one of perks of being district leader but wow it takes up a lot of time. But in the end everything worked out and only one person straight up didn't show up to the interview.

We also had a "special" mission devotional. A bunch of return missionaries joined in. Right now the missionaries in this mission are about 60% on their beathbed and 40% brand new. So for 60% it was super cool to see a lot of familiar faces and for 40% it was just weird. And of course the topic was obedience. It ended up alright. It was weird because the next time there is a "special" devotional I will be watching from the other side. It will probably be super weird.

We had a six baptisms planned for this Saturday. By Saturday two had fallen through. And on Saturday another two fell through. They all had good reasons to not get baptized but it is certainly not what you hope for.
The saddest one was one girl whose mom wouldn't let her. The mom was normally receptive and nice but when she found out her daughter was going to be baptized she was told her "no, not now." Once we were able to talk to the mom we found out the reason. This girl and her twin sister, along with most of the rest of the family would go to the same church. Then suddenly her and her twin stopped going (and started coming to our church). In the end the mom wants them to go to the old church and say goodbye to the people there. It's pretty annoying and might get hairy for the twins but it'll work out.

On the same day as our baptism there was a Stake Priesthood Activity for youth and young single adults. They had some classes and towards the end played soccer. They had a stake tournament to see which ward/branch is the best. I am happy to say that Manganhe got 2nd. Of course I should say that I didn't participate or watch any of this but our branch president was very happy to admit their great success.

The work is ever moving forwards. And guess what we found three new couples to teach this week! I don't know how it keeps on happening but I just hope that someone will be able to eventually get them all married some day. Of course not all of them will "go the distance" but I'll do my best to help them with the time I have.

Until next time,
Elder Andrew McDonald
