Falcon and the Winter Wizard

It's transfers time again and like usual something unexpected happened. My companion Elder Candido was transferred and my new companion would be flying in from Brazil the same day. That's right I'm training a new missionary again, except that he's already been out for six months, so I am more just training him on how to live and work in Mozambique. But he's pretty sweet and it's going to be fun serving with him. His name is Elder Falcão (which translates to Falcon). Another thing that surprised me is that he speaks really good English making him my third Brazilian companion that speaks great English, which is crazy because there are four Brazilians in this mission that speak good English and I have served with three of them now.

A hurricane was expected to hit this week. We had to stay inside 2 days because of it (and one of those days it was almost completely sunny). However the main brunt of the storm never really seemed to hit. Two days after it was expected, that morning every was like "guess the hurricanes already gone" and then that night it rained, poured, was windy, everything. It wasn't super strong or anything but it did certainly hit leaving us with a lot of rain!

This week we have been working to find new people, to be honest it didn't go that great, we got two referrals from our ward leaders which was great but ended up not working out super well. The first one was a youth which according to them lived close to our house. They told us to ask one of the Branch President's kids about him. Well, the Branch President's kids didn't have any idea who this guy was but they do have a friend that comes to church with them but he lives really far away (no where near our house). Okay so that one didn't turn out super great but maybe the second one will work out. The second referral was a 20 year old that lives at the 1st counciler's house. We don't know how to get there but his daughter should be able to help us. So we call her and guess what, she's not home, in fact she is at the Branch President's house where we had just left. She tried to give us directions but as a non-mozambican that has only been here for 3 weeks it did not work out at all. Then her phone died. We had walked around for about an hour and a half and we had gotten absolutely nothing done. It was annoying, but honestly sometimes that's how it goes here.

It gets better because the day we try to get there again and we see this massive storm rolling in, and I was thinking "we should probably turn around, but I really want to find this house" then after a bit I realized we definitely needed to turn around. So we did but the storm got to us before we got home and we got pretty soaked. It was a blast.

Yeah things are going pretty good, just working hard and trying to have a good time.

Until next week,
Elder McDonald
