The City That Excites

Well, I got transferred. And I'm back in the Nampula zone! However, President was smart enough not to put the King of Nampula back in Nampula, so he put me in the wonderful city of Quelimane (Kill-la-mon-E). Quelimane, the last paradise, the city that excites, the city of bikes, the Boulder of Mozambique. So, what is Quelimane like you might ask, well I'll tell ya. Well, a city of Mozambicans got together and decided that instead of having tall buildings and gross, densly, packed vans (chapas) that everyone would instead just ride around on bikes. And it you don't have a bike? Well, you can get ride to virtually anyway for 25-50 cents. And that's about it, it's very hot, fairly spacious and has a surprising amount of well-paved roads.

I started this week in Dondo and basically we found out about transfers and then visited everyone I could think of. It was really fun and we got a lot of mangos. My last moments in Dondo before the AP's picked me up was eating mangos with some youth in our ward at our house. It was nice.
Then I left. The next day I left on my flight. And somehow for the second time I was flying with a ward leader. When I left Nampula I sat next to the 1st Counciler on the flight to Maputo. This time it was the Bishop of Dondo. I didn't sit next to him but it was nice and we got to chat at the airport. But then we went ways and I left to Quelimane.

Not gonna lie, Dondo was really fun and really cool and I am definitely going to miss it, but Quelimane is great. It is one of the few biking areas in this mission and the bikes we ride are... rough to say the least. But they work and are better than the average bike here. Anyway, I got here at the perfect time because normally it is extremely hot here but since I got here it has rained almost everyday making the temperature tolerable. And now since my first transfer here in Mozambique, I am serving with another Brazillian. His name is Elder Lacerda and he is pretty cool. It has been a good time, though he has been a little sick for the last 3 days.

Alright funny story time (I honestly wasn't expecting one my first week here). We were teaching a semi-active girl (~20) for the first time and her mom (~40) was getting ready to leave. But her mom was a little short on change so she asked HER mom (~60) for the money she needed. The grandma, then, started giving the daughter, again roughly 40 years old, a hard time, asking where she was going, what she was doing, what time she would get back. All in all it was pretty funny and in the end the mom got the money and the grandma wandered off. So, we continued teaching when the grandma walked up again and just started talking to us about how God is one, which is common phrase here that basically is just saying all churches that talk about God are good and it doesn't matter which one. Anyway, she was hitting us with the Deus é unico nonsense and started a whole rant about how she's catholic and that all churches are good but how she's catholic and it's better. Anyway after a minute it became clear she was drunk and that it was going to be awhile. So I'll give you some highlights on what she said. "Cala pai" ('be quiet father', said to Elder Lacerda when he tried to interrupt her), "Amor" ('love, dear, honey' you get the idea, anyway she used this alot when adressing us) and 'if you want to know where I live just come here and ask people where does that ugly lady live?'. It was an incredible 10 minutes of mad, drunk old catholic senna lady ranting. It was incredible. We even had a member there and now she jokes about it all time. It was great.

Yeah, things are going good here. Not too much else to say. Have a good week.
