African Spiders

It feels like every week I discover something new. That something has been their the whole time I just only now realize it is there. It happens a lot with Portuguese where I'll understand some new phrase and then realize people say it all the time. For example "Graça a Deus" which just means "thanks to God" but not like because of God, it is more like "I am doing good, thanks to God." Anyway, people say that all the time here and one day, it just clicked. Where was I? Oh yeah, spiders. In one day I saw about three massive spiders, and I was like 'dang Africa has some crazy spiders.' Seriously these things are just huge and there are like weird colors. They just look crazy. The people say those crazy big ones aren't dangerous though there are other spiders that are.

You know what is slightly dangerous? The lizards. Mozambique has tons of lizards and they basically just scamper around. But apparently they do bite and they do have venom, but it wont kill you, it will just hurt a lot. Yeah pretty cool.

Well this week was pretty good. We did a lot of good work with less-actives and had a lot of solid lessons with our friends. We also got a lot of good help from our ward leaders which is super cool. We also had some good ward activities this week. We had our integration night were we played some games and taught some gospel principles. It was pretty fun and everyone enjoyed it.

I also had exchanges with our district leader. I was with his companion in his area. It was pretty fun, their area is literally adjacent to ours but it is so different. Their area is just a little poorer and it is pretty different. The streets are a lot rockier so by the end of the day I was a little tuckered out. Still it was a nice exchange and the next day Elder Maynard our district leader did exchanges with the Elders we live with so he was the in the apartment for another day. Why that matters is because he has a travelers edition of Catan. So we of course we played. It was just fun. It is super hard to have just a cool board game here so it was just special and cool.

This Saturday Elder Alberto left for South Africa to go to the temple. Elder Alberto hasn't been to the temple yet so it is super cool he gets to go. But because he left I am with Elder Langkilde and Thornock for the week he is gone. It has been pretty cool but it feels pretty weird. Like, I am not working in my area, but things are still happening there. Still, there area has been super cool. We have already had two meals with investigators and members. And let me tell you, the food they make is super cool. They literally use like onions, garlic, tomatoes and some sort of meat or vegetable and make just fire food with it. We had noodles and chicken at the first one and the noodles were like amazing and the chicken literally just tasted like better chicken. Then our second meal we ate matapa which is like peanuts, some sort of lettuce, coconut and onions, tomatoes and garlic. It was also just super good and we ate with shima and it was just awesome. They use so much less stuff and still make just awesome meals. It definitely makes me realize how bad my cooking is.

This week definitely seemed to fly by. We did a lot of work and it was pretty fun. It is pretty weird with Elder Alberto gone but we are still going to work hard this next week. The time passes so slowly but the weeks seem to disappear. I really want to do the best with the time I have. Everyday I try to do my best. To put in the work. I know it will pay off.
