A Pretty Disappointing Hurricane

Wow, I have been in Africa for about a month and half now, which seems absolutely crazy. All the weird differences and challenges already feel more normal. It doesn't remove the challenge it just is expected.

So first thing this week was the hurricane, or cyclone if you aren't from the United States. I don't know exactly what it did but Monday it looked like it was shooting right for Nampula, that day it rained pretty hard. Then the rest of the week there was like nothing. I asked some Missionaries in Beira and it sounds like it was pretty mild there too. This being my first hurricane I was excited to see it rain and bunch and maybe break some stuff, but instead it just rained a little harder than normal... once. I know I am probably jinxing it for the future but for how big it sounded not much happened. Because of it we were asked to stay inside for one day which was a blast. I do just love making phone calls all day.

Another big thing is we moved houses! Apparently the Sisters had some problems (I don't know too much) so Elder Icaro and I moved houses so they could use ours. This was the same house I was in for the All Day All American P-Day. It is a pretty nice house, missionaries have lived in it a lot longer so there is just a lot more stuff, which is really nice in Africa. Unfortunately they haven't had running water all transfer, but it was being fixed. Because of this I did take a bucket shower (check that off my living in Africa Bingo). It wasn't that bad, the most annoying part is that the water is cold.

This Saturday we had our ward Activity! It took a lot of time to prepare and took a lot longer than expected but it was really fun. This would be Elder Icaro last activity and he made the most of it. For the activity we showed how to prepare and decorate a cake. Elder Icaro studied this in school before the mission so he did a really good job making the most of what we had. He led the class and I helped make some of the desserts. For Africa is was really impressive cake and it tasted good too. We made sure to give the ward recipes too so they could make their own in the future. The ward also has a few weddings coming up for our investigators so now they can make cakes for it!

It was a pretty fun week, living with other Elders is really nice and a lot more fun. Elder Icaro leaves this coming Friday for Beira so I am doing my best to make it a good week. There are a lot of challenges but it should be quite an adventure and hopefully quite fun too. Stepping up and doing more has been a huge challenge here. It is easy to just follow Elder Icaro around and teach only what I need to. But I am not growing when I do this. Eventually, I will have to learn and it is better to do it now then later. God didn't put me here so I could follow my companion around all day, he put me here to work. He knows my weaknesses and challenges, but he wants me to do more. Only when I do this will I grow.
