Potatoes and Cookies

Well, as I mentioned before, I was called to train this transfer. It was a good first week and it honestly doesn't feel like I am training. My greenie... sorry new missionary is Elder Bowen, from Burley Idaho. He is a total country boy, before the mission he used to work on farms and even drove semi-trucks. He has a solid grasp on the gospel and is a pretty simple and humble person. We are all having a blast.

On our first day we picked him up at the mission office and got some pictures at the temple. Then we took him to Buffalo Wild Wings (Elder Craig's favorite) and went shopping. The missionaries in our apartment are also training a new missionary, Elder Stobbe. So for one night we had six elders in our apartment. It was really fun and we had to take a spare bed from the Spanish Elders. The next day Elder Tonga left to go to Korea so we were back down to five. Everyone was pretty sad to see Elder Tonga leave.

It has also been nice being in a trio (having three missionaries). Our ward has quite a few widows and because of mission rules, we can't enter their home unless there is three males, so a normal companionship couldn't enter but a trio doesn't have such weaknesses. So we are working to stop by and talk to all of the widows and people we normally can't visit. The ones we could visit really appreciated it and a lot of them are super missionary minded.

We also made a new friend! We knocked on his door and he didn't answer so we walked away. But he came out and called us back. We talked to him and talked about families, it was really cool. He wanted to know more about eternal families and how he can improve his family. Unfortunately, he didn't answer when we came back for our lesson. He is definitely interested but it isn't easy to talk to him.

On Friday we had the annual McAdoo cookie party. Basically every year one of the members in our ward spends months baking hundreds of cookies in many varieties. Then for one night everyone comes and eats them. I have heard about this party for months and I was super excited to go. The best part is Sister McAdoo basically just lets you take whatever you want and in the past has let the missionaries take loads of these cookies. So naturally we scored TONS of cookies. It is going to be a rough next few weeks just because we have so many treats to eat. It is also pretty funny because for his last six months Elder Craig is going to work out and eat healthier and literally the first week of this we have this cookie party. They are some really good cookies though.

All in all, it was a good week. It is weird how different being trained versus training is. It has been super interesting. It doesn't feel that different than just being companions. Sometimes I realize that Elder Bowen has no idea how to do certain things and explaining them is fun.
Also this week I hit my six month mark, it feels super weird that I have already been out that long. One thing I have definitely learned serving here is the importance of faith. These past few weeks we have seen more results and success and that has been faith in action. Knowing and believing things can happen has made things happen. It has been super cool and results will only improve as we increase our faith and set aside our fears.
