One Legged Ducks Swim in a Circle

Maybe the duck could eventually learn to swim straight again but at first it is going to swim in circles.

Hello again to whoever reads this. I hope you are doing well. Anyway this week was alright, some things went well other things did not.

One large note is that transfers are next week are I am going to have two dads. In other words I am going to be trained by two different people. Elder McCabe has been called to be a zone leader! Unfortunately that means he will be leaving Ashton Park. The weird part is that he will be MY zone leader and he is in a trio! So he isn't moving far and will lead the zone with two companions instead of one. He has been a great dad, he was very helpful and is a great example. He is so good at connecting to people, I hope one day I can be that good. He also did a great job fulfilling his role as a district leader and is sure to do great things as a zone leader.

Now for the duck story. We are at a member dinner and things are going well. The dad of the family was very animated and everyone else was a little reserved which was pretty funny. We had been talking a lot about what we did before the mission and Elder McCabe was talking about hunting. The father asked if one legged ducks swim in a circle. I was a little confused but Elder McCabe answered yes. Suddenly the dad slammed the table and yelled "YES" and everyone else started laughing. Elder McCabe and I were very confused. The members explained that this had been a long standing discussion (argument) in the house. It gets better, the dad pulls out his phone and calls his dad (we will call him the grandpa). When he answers Elder McCabe tells him that one legged ducks swim in a circle and the grandpa was a little upset. He started arguing semantics and Elder McCabe testified of what he had experienced. Eventually Elder McCabe promised the grandpa to get someone from Duck Dynasty (who are clearly experts on ducks) to send him a email saying that one legged ducks swim in a circle. It was a exciting dinner.

Our friend Ryan who is on date is doing pretty well. We tried to meet with him this week but he spaced again. We stopped by his house and he was doing fine but was busy at the moment. The only times we can get him to reliably show up is at church and at a member dinner. With his date fast approaching it is very important we meet with him and finish the lessons so that he can be prepared to be baptized. He is prepared spiritually but he has many physical problems that make things difficult. We pray for him a lot.

Transfers has also led to many other exciting developments, all of the Elders in our district are training! Really that's just two companionships and me but it is still crazy. It is only going to get more crazy next transfer because so many are going home and so many are coming in. It is pretty exciting times and our apartment is getting a bunkbed (which I think is going to be sweet).

It is mindboggling that my first transfer is almost over, I feel like not much has changed other than I feel more confident. That has probably been my biggest lesson, I can handle living away from home and tackling mission tasks but I have struggled the most with talking. And now I see what I am doing and how it can help others. I have become a lot more confident about it. My talking hasn't improved that much but I feel more comfortable doing it which is a big step. The extra expectation of basically leading the Ashton Park area has really helped me to see the importance of stepping up. I know I will struggle to talk but this next transfer is when I can learn the most.
