Jesus says: do your dishes. Satan says: don't do your dishes

Ola meus amigos!
This week started a little rough but in the middle we redirected our efforts and it has gone better since.

We had exchanges with the zone leaders again and it was great. In reality we didn't actually get to that much, but I got a lot of great advice on working with the ward. You have to ask for help and help them help. Our area has little success right now and it is mostly because we aren't getting help from the ward. We aren't asking for referrals and we aren't showing how they can help. The next day we set goals to direct the ward efforts in a way that will make good contacts. Contacts from members are significantly more likely to be baptized than street contacts. That was the best part of the exchange was learning and discussing how we can help the ward help us.

Some of the other Elders helped clean another Elders apartment out because they are moving apartments. While they were there, they "procured" some of there stuff (apparently it was super messy). Including two road signs. We have no idea where they got them from but it is a good reminder that Elders have sticky fingers. Like if you give them leftovers after a dinner and you put it in a Tupperware, you aren't getting that Tupperware back.

We had a dinner appointment this week that was pretty special. Normally I wouldn't write about this but the dessert was awesome. It was a family recipe and it is tomato soup cake! It uses a whole can of tomato soup and it was delicious. It was just an objectively better spice cake. Like it goes spice cake, then carrot cake and a few steps higher than that was this tomato soup cake. Like it isn't the best dessert ever but as far as spice cakes go, it was easily the best I have had.

Now back to some more significant things. We had a five week meeting for all of the trainers and trainees. It was fantastic, we got a lot of great advice and I got to see Elder Mikkelsen again. He is in almost the exact same boat as me where we were called to Mozambique, Beira and were both reassigned here. He is doing great! Also the Mission President told us trainees that we would probably be training right when our training ends. That will be super crazy. I took some good notes and it was a sweet meeting.

This Sunday was also cool, I gave a talk! It was on humility and how we can become more humble. It went pretty good, and the ward liked it. Elder McCabe's talk was also awesome, he talked about a lot of miracles in his life and it was an awesome talk. My only worry is that they will call on us more often to give talks.

That Sunday was also great because one of our friends Ryan was there. The ward was very nice to him and really helped him feel welcome and uplifted. Afterwards we talked about how that morning he really wasn't thinking of going but after church he just felt so alive. It was a sweet experience for us and him.

The beginning of this week felt really slow. Compared to other areas, Ashton Park doesn't see that much success, we haven't had a recent convert in almost 3 years! But the area still has so much work to do. I was reminded again and again this week that the ward should be our solution to finding more success. I was also told to not lower my expectations or we would see less success. So we decided to refocus and really work to help the ward help us. They have so much potential we just need to direct it and encourage it.
